A political twist has emerged in Oyo State after two senatorial candidates reportedly donated electricity transformers to the same community, sparking discussions about political rivalry and grassroots development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a report by Intel Region, the unusual development was captured in a trending video showing the competing political interests surrounding the provision of electricity infrastructure to residents.
The incident comes as politicians seeking elective offices in Oyo State intensify their engagement with communities, with donations and constituency interventions increasingly featuring in their campaigns.
One of the candidates, Aderemi Oseni, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, recently announced the distribution of 10 transformers to communities across Ido, Ibadan North and Ibadan South-East local government areas. The intervention was presented as an effort to address electricity challenges and support local economic activities.
Separately, reports have highlighted other candidates’ efforts to provide electricity infrastructure to communities in the state as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 polls.
Although access to reliable electricity remains a major concern for households, traders and small businesses, the emergence of competing donations to the same community raises questions about coordination, project ownership and the long-term sustainability of such interventions.
Residents will ultimately be interested in whether the transformers are properly installed, connected to the electricity network and maintained to deliver lasting benefits.
As the election approaches, voters are likely to scrutinise not only campaign promises and donations but also the practical impact of political interventions on their daily lives.
