Controversial Nigerian content creator and TikTok personality, Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has regained his freedom after meeting the ₦1 million bail conditions imposed by a Lagos Magistrate Court.
His lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, confirmed the development on Tuesday in an Instagram post, expressing gratitude over his client’s release.
“All glory to God. DJ Chicken,” the lawyer wrote.
Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, also announced DJ Chicken’s release on X, stating that the content creator had reunited with his family and loved ones.
“DJ Chicken (real name Ademola Abiodun) is free and reunited with his family, friends, and loved ones.
“No one should suffer oppression while the rest of us watch in silence, especially at the hands of powerful and corrupt forces. An injury to one is an injury to all. We will continue to stand up for the weak and fight against injustice wherever it occurs,” Sowore wrote.
A livestream shared on Instagram shortly after his release showed DJ Chicken smiling inside a vehicle alongside his lawyer while interacting with followers.
DJ Chicken was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre on Friday after he was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, over an alleged threat to kill Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
He was docked on a three-count charge bordering on alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, breach of peace and making threats to kill following a viral video in which he allegedly claimed that President Bola Tinubu would not win re-election in 2027.
Following public backlash, the content creator apologised and said the statement was intended as a joke to attract attention and boost his popularity.
Despite the apology, he was arrested and charged before the court.
After pleading not guilty to the charges, the court granted him ₦1 million bail with two sureties in like sum.
The court ordered that one surety must be a civil servant while the other must be a community leader with landed property in Lagos State. Both were also required to provide three years’ tax clearance, utility bills, National Identification Number details and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency registration, while one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.
With the bail conditions now fulfilled, DJ Chicken has been released pending the continuation of his trial.
The case has been adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further proceedings.
