ASABA — September 28, 2026: The Delta State Police Command has detained Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects over the alleged killing of a Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, as investigators intensify efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death.
The development marks a major turn in the investigation, with police also declaring two other individuals wanted in connection with the case. The suspects in custody are being investigated, and no finding of guilt has been established against them at this stage.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the command was also searching for the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Clementine Ufuoma and Clement Apia, a driver attached to the commissioner.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, urged the two individuals to report to the police to assist with the ongoing investigation.
The case followed Adeda’s death after an incident at the Ministry of Secondary Education in Asaba on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
Earlier reports indicated that one suspect, identified as Lucky Adoh, had been arrested as police began investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
The police have promised a thorough, impartial and professional investigation, stressing that anyone found culpable will face the law irrespective of position or status.
The detention of a serving commissioner has heightened public interest in the case, while Adeda’s family and other stakeholders await answers on what happened inside the ministry and who should be held responsible.
Police authorities said investigations remain ongoing.
