Dead Baby Found in Drainage at UniJos Female Hostel

By: Sunday Ameh

The University of Jos community was thrown into shock on Friday following the discovery of a dead baby in a drainage system linked to a female hostel on campus.

The incident occurred in the Naraguta area of the institution, where students had reportedly complained of a blocked sewage system and persistent foul odour.

Sources said maintenance workers were invited to address the blockage, but during the repair process, plumbers uncovered the remains of a baby lodged within the pipe.

A staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the baby was suspected to have been dumped in a toilet after an alleged abortion by an unidentified female student.

The discovery triggered outrage among students and residents, many of whom expressed disbelief that such an incident could occur within the hostel.

Some students called for a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and ensure accountability.

As of the time of filing this report, the university authorities had yet to issue an official statement, while attempts to reach the institution’s Public Relations Officer were unsuccessful.
