Ayra Starr, Davido, Omah Lay, Wizkid, and Burna Boy did not succeed in their respective categories at the 2026 Grammy Awards as South Africa’s Tyla clinched the 2025 award.

The event took place on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah.

In the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category, South Africa’s Tyla emerged victorious, surpassing nominees such as Burna Boy with ‘Love’, Wizkid & Ayra Starr with ‘Gimme Dat’, Davido & Omah Lay with ‘With You’, and Ugandan artist Eddy Kenzo alongside Mehran Matin with ‘Hope & Love’.

Burna Boy was also nominated for the ‘Best Global Music Album’ award, but he did not win, as the honor went to Youssou N’Dour for his album ‘Eclairer le monde: Light the World’.

This marks Tyla’s second win in the ‘Best African Performance’ category at the Grammys; she previously won in 2024 for her hit single ‘Water’.

Nigerian singer Tems won the award for her song ‘Love Me JeJe’ in 2025, beating out other notable Nigerians including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay, and Burna Boy to claim the prestigious award.
