The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reached a significant operational achievement with the complete restoration and optimization of its Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) and Motor Spirit (MS) production block.
Both units are now functioning at peak performance, further enhancing the steady operations of Africa’s largest oil refining facility.
After a scheduled maintenance on the CDU and MS Block, the refinery has initiated an intensive 72-hour series of performance tests in partnership with licensor UOP.
These tests aim to verify operational efficiency and ensure that all critical parameters align with global standards.
Chief Executive Officer David Bird emphasized that the smooth integration and strong performance of the units highlight the refinery’s advanced engineering and robust operational capabilities.
“Our teams have shown remarkable precision and expertise in stabilizing both the CDU and MS Block, and we are pleased to see them operating at optimal efficiency.
This testing phase allows us to validate the entire plant under real operating conditions. We are confident that the refinery is on track to deliver consistent, world-class output.
“This milestone highlights the strength, reliability, and engineering excellence that characterize our operations.
We are dedicated to producing high-quality refined products that will transform Nigeria’s energy landscape, reduce import dependence, and position the country as a net exporter of petroleum products,” he stated.
Bird also mentioned that the CDU and MS Block, which includes the naphtha hydrotreater, isomerization unit, and reformer unit, are now operating steadily at their full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day.
He confirmed that all remaining processing units will begin their performance tests in Phase 2, set to start next week.
During the recent festive season, the refinery supplied between 45-50 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) daily.
With the CDU and MS Block now fully operational, the refinery is prepared to deliver up to 75 million liters of PMS to the domestic market as needed.
