The management of Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, has issued a public response following intense public scrutiny after the death of socialite Elena Jessica, who reportedly died after complications from a second Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery linked to the facility. The statement was released amid widespread online debate and emotional reactions from friends, family and social media users on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
In its statement, Cynosure denied any direct responsibility for Jessica’s death, clarifying that she was no longer under their care at the time of her passing and that the clinic had not recorded any patient deaths at its facility, contrary to circulating claims. The hospital also addressed a viral video said to show a patient in pain during surgery, stating the footage was not recorded at their clinic and urging the public to handle the situation with “compassion and sensitivity.”
The tragic case unfolded after Jessica reportedly developed severe post‑operative complications, including swelling, infection and rising white blood cell counts, in the days following her procedure in early February. Her family’s account details multiple transfers between medical facilities and escalating treatment costs before her condition fatally deteriorated, sparking grievances directed at the clinic’s care and accountability.
Cynosure’s response follows a surge of outrage online and renewed calls for greater oversight of cosmetic surgery practices in Nigeria, particularly after the death was linked to one of the popular but controversial procedures.
