The Cross River State Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka William, has died, plunging the state’s political and public service community into deep mourning.
His death was announced on Sunday, September 13, 2026, by his brother, Nkang William, who confirmed that the commissioner passed away suddenly on Saturday, September 12, while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Abuja.
In a poignant statement, Nkang expressed profound disbelief, struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of his brother, whom he described as a vital companion and an irreplaceable part of their family. “How can someone who was here with us suddenly become a memory?” he wrote. “Your departure has left a space that words cannot adequately describe.” Despite the grief, the family stated they would focus on celebrating the late commissioner’s legacy of service and the many lives he touched.
The news has sent shockwaves through the state, leaving friends, colleagues, and associates stunned, especially those who had interacted with him only days prior.
Pius Kejuo Osang, a former councillor for Abo Ward in Boki Local Government Area, shared his shock, noting that he had been with the commissioner as recently as last Tuesday. Similarly, Michael Gabriel Jr., Executive Media Assistant to the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan-Enoh, paid tribute to the late commissioner. He remembered him as a dedicated public servant and a man of humility whose impact on Ikom LGA and beyond would long be remembered.
Tributes continue to pour in as the state mourns the loss of a key figure in its power sector, with many offering prayers for the strength of his family and the repose of his soul.
