A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to Nigerian crypto entrepreneur Linus Williams, popularly known as BLord, following his arrest over allegations of forgery, and impersonation.
BLord, founder of BLord Group, was admitted to bail on self-recognition, with the court directing him to deposit his international passport with the relevant authorities as part of the conditions.
During proceedings, police prosecutors withdrew their opposition to the bail application. Additionally, no counter-affidavit was filed by social media commentator VeryDarkMan (VDM), who initiated the allegations, including claims of unauthorized use of his image.
The case has attracted widespread attention after VDM accused BLord of impersonation.
However, Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore was present in court in support of the bail proceedings.
He emphasised that state institutions should not be used to settle personal disputes between individuals, a stance that has further fueled public debate around accountability and regulation in the country’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
Despite the bail ruling, the substantive trial has yet to commence, with hearing dates still to be scheduled as the case continues.
