Ceferin to Seek Fourth Term as UEFA President

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin is set to contest a fourth term as head of European football’s governing body, reversing his earlier decision not to seek re-election.

Ceferin disclosed his decision during a meeting with representatives of UEFA’s 55 national associations in Berlin.

The 58-year-old Slovenian, who was first elected UEFA president in 2016, had announced in February 2024 that he would not seek a fourth term.

His decision at the time followed controversy over changes to UEFA’s statutes that would allow him to remain in office for another term.

However, speculation over a possible change of position had increased in recent months, with Ceferin now confirming his intention to continue in the role.

The development comes amid growing tensions between UEFA and FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Ceferin has ruled out running for the FIFA presidency himself but has backed efforts to identify a candidate capable of uniting the football community ahead of the FIFA presidential election scheduled for March.

His decision to seek another term is expected to shape the political landscape of European football ahead of the UEFA election.
