Presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has dismissed personal attacks and name-calling by his political opponents, saying such criticisms do not affect him or distract him from his vision for Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, July 27, 2026, Obi said he remains focused on addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges rather than engaging in political mudslinging. He stressed that leadership should be judged by competence, integrity and the ability to improve the lives of citizens, not by insults or propaganda.
“Calling me names doesn’t make me feel anything,” Obi said, adding that his priority is to present practical solutions to the country’s economic, security and governance challenges.
According to him, Nigerians are more interested in policies that will create jobs, reduce poverty, improve education and strengthen the nation’s institutions than in personal attacks among politicians.
The former Anambra State governor noted that politics should be centred on ideas and constructive debate rather than character assassination. He urged political actors to focus on issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election, arguing that democracy is strengthened when candidates compete on programmes and policies instead of engaging in divisive rhetoric.
Obi reiterated his commitment to prudent governance, accountability and responsible leadership, maintaining that he would continue to engage Nigerians with his vision for national development regardless of criticism from political opponents.
He also called on his supporters to remain peaceful, respectful and focused on promoting their ideals through lawful and democratic means.
