The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced that it will begin enforcing provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 requiring companies to disclose the details of their directors on all business letters from August 1, 2026.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the commission said the enforcement would cover Sections 304(1) and (2), and 729(1)(c) of the CAMA 2020, warning that companies that fail to comply with the requirements would face sanctions.
According to the commission, all companies registered under CAMA 2020 or any repealed law must include specific information on their business letters.
The required details include the company’s registered name, registration number, registered address, as well as the current first names or initials and surnames of all directors. Companies are also expected to disclose any former first names and surnames of directors, in addition to the nationality of directors who are not Nigerians.
“The Commission wishes to inform the General Public, Esteemed Customers, and in particular, Companies registered under the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 (or any enactment repealed by the Act), that commencing the 1st day of August 2026, the Commission shall enforce the full application of the requirements of Sections 304(1) & (2) and 729(1)(c) of the Act with attendant sanctions for non-compliance,” the notice stated.
The CAC said all required information must be displayed in legible characters on company business letters.
The commission explained that the move is aimed at promoting greater transparency, accountability, and strengthening corporate governance in Nigeria’s business environment.
It urged all registered companies to comply with the provisions before the August 1 enforcement date to avoid penalties.
