A businessman, Justice Abu Oshioke, has been shot dead by suspected kidnappers in Ekpoma, Edo State just hours before the dedication of his newborn child in a tragedy that has left his family and community in shock.
Mr Oshioke, who was said to be the Chief Executive Officer of a well-known fast-food outlet, Principle Takeout, popularly called Jusewayne, was killed on Saturday night, 2 May 2026.
According to eyewitness accounts, the attack occurred in the Idumebo area of Ekpoma as he was returning home. The assailants reportedly attempted to abduct him, but he resisted.
One witness recounted that the gunmen tried to force him into a nearby bush. “He struggled with them, but they shot him. He was rushed to a hospital, but sadly, he did not survive,” the source said.
The killing has taken on an even more heartbreaking dimension, as it happened on the eve of a planned child dedication ceremony for his newborn a moment that was meant to be one of joy and thanksgiving for his family.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, said the attack took place at about 9:55 p.m. and described it as a “tragic murder” carried out by unidentified armed men.
She added that Mr Oshioke was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the killing, with authorities vowing to track down those responsible.
Police have appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in apprehending the perpetrators.
