A woman has been rescued from alleged captivity in the Mpape area of Maitama Extension, Abuja, after reportedly spending four years chained inside a locked room by her brother following a dispute over a business venture.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman and her brother had jointly established a cement business. However, a disagreement allegedly arose over ownership and profits, leading to claims that the brother declared her mentally unstable and confined her to prevent her from asserting her stake in the enterprise.
The shocking situation reportedly came to light when a man fetching water near the family compound heard unusual noises coming from a locked room. Concerned by the sounds, he alerted other residents, who gathered at the scene and forced entry into the room.
Inside, they allegedly discovered the woman chained in a dark, confined space. Witnesses said she appeared frail and was unable to walk, having reportedly endured years of isolation and confinement.
Following her rescue, the woman was rushed to a medical facility for urgent treatment and evaluation.
Eyewitnesses also raised concerns about the whereabouts of the woman’s daughter, who they claim has been missing for some time. Some residents alleged that the brother may have been involved in the child’s disappearance and speculated that she could have been used for ritual purposes. However, there is currently no evidence to support these claims, and authorities have not confirmed them.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s alleged captivity and the disappearance of her daughter.
A graphic video purportedly showing the woman’s rescue has been circulating online. Due to its disturbing nature and social media content guidelines, the footage is not being published.
