Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has launched a fierce attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing his administration of failing to contain Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and declaring that “the blood of Nigerians will judge” the government over rising killings across the country.
April 29, 2026 — In a strongly worded statement shared through his media team, Atiku criticised what he described as the federal government’s inadequate response to repeated attacks in several states, including Benue, Kwara, Plateau, and parts of the North-East.
He argued that continued violence reflects a deepening crisis of leadership and accountability at the highest level of governance.
The opposition figure warned that Nigerians are increasingly losing confidence in the state’s ability to protect lives and property, stressing that security assurances from the presidency have not translated into tangible safety on the ground. His comments come amid a wave of recent attacks that have left dozens dead in various communities, further intensifying public concern over national security.
Political analysts say Atiku’s remarks are part of a broader opposition strategy to pressure the Tinubu administration ahead of the 2027 political cycle, where insecurity is expected to remain a central campaign issue.
