Nigerian singer Ahmedu Augustine Obiabo, popularly known as Blackface, has revealed how he introduced music stars 2Baba and Faze into the now-defunct Plantashun Boiz.
Blackface made the revelation during a recent appearance on the Fresh Off The Boat podcast, in comments reported on Monday, September 14, 2026.
According to the singer, his relationship with 2Baba began during their school years, while Faze was later brought into the fold after Blackface was impressed by his vocal ability and personality.
Blackface explained that he approached 2Baba after completing secondary school because he believed in his musical talent and felt they could build something successful together. He subsequently introduced Faze as the third member, saying he wanted what he considered “the best of the best” for the group.
Plantashun Boiz, comprising Blackface, 2Baba and Faze, emerged around 2000 and became one of Nigeria’s notable music groups of the era. The trio released successful projects, including Body and Soul and Sold Out, before splitting in 2004 following 2Baba’s departure to pursue a solo career.
Blackface also recalled that he initially financed the group’s studio sessions before they began generating income from their music.
His latest account offers another perspective on the origins of one of Nigeria’s most recognised music groups and the relationships that shaped its early success.
