KAURU, Kaduna State – June 18, 2026: Suspected armed bandits have killed two people and injured three others during an attack on a burial gathering in Angwar Magaji village, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, further highlighting the security challenges facing communities in Nigeria’s North-West region. The incident was reported on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, when gunmen reportedly stormed the community and opened fire on mourners attending a burial ceremony.
According to local sources, the attackers struck during the gathering, causing panic among residents and forcing mourners to flee for safety. Security personnel were subsequently alerted and responded to the scene, while the injured victims were evacuated to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
The attack comes amid growing concerns over recurring violence, kidnappings, and armed assaults across several communities in Kaduna State.
Residents have repeatedly called on security agencies to strengthen surveillance and deploy additional personnel to vulnerable areas.
Community leaders condemned the incident and urged authorities to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted. Security agencies are reportedly conducting investigations and tracking those responsible for the attack.
The latest assault underscores the continuing challenge of restoring lasting peace and security in rural communities affected by banditry and armed violence across northern Nigeria.
