Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to focus on addressing Nigeria’s mounting governance challenges rather than directing attention toward political opponents ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the Tinubu administration should prioritise resolving pressing national issues, including insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and rising inflation, instead of engaging in political battles with opposition figures.
The former Vice President argued that Nigerians expect practical solutions to the country’s challenges rather than what he described as attempts to shift public attention through political rhetoric.
According to him, governance should remain the administration’s primary responsibility, especially at a time when many citizens are grappling with the high cost of living and persistent security concerns.
Atiku further maintained that a healthy democracy thrives on constructive opposition, adding that criticism from opposition parties should be viewed as part of the democratic process rather than treated as hostility.
He called on the Federal Government to strengthen public institutions, improve accountability and deliver on its promises to Nigerians.
His comments come amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 elections, with both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and opposition parties intensifying consultations and public engagements as the country’s political landscape continues to evolve.
