APC Secretary Calls Sowore a ‘Skit Maker’ Over Aso Rock Campaign Request

By George Omagbemi

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has described African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore as a “skit maker” following the party’s request to use the Presidential Villa in Abuja for its 2027 campaign council inauguration.

Basiru made the remark during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, questioning Sowore’s electoral performance and political influence.

The APC secretary reportedly challenged Sowore to demonstrate his political strength by winning a seat in a state House of Assembly before seeking broader recognition.

Basiru also claimed that rejected ballot papers received more votes than the AAC in the 2023 presidential election. He, however, clarified that he had no authority to approve the party’s request because he worked for the APC, not the Presidency.

The AAC had written to President Bola Tinubu seeking permission to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa on November 11, 2026. The party also requested food, drinks and logistical support for approximately 5,000 participants.

In its appeal, the party cited multiparty democracy and pointed to the APC’s recent campaign council inauguration at the State House.

The request has sparked debate about opposition parties’ access to public facilities and whether government premises should host partisan political activities.

As of October 22, no official presidential decision on the AAC’s request had been publicly reported.
