Several children of former Nigerian presidents and governors have emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, further highlighting the growing influence of political dynasties within the ruling party.
Abuja, Nigeria — Monday, May 18, 2026. Among those who secured APC tickets is Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who reportedly won the party’s ticket for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency in Katsina State. Also, Adamu Abubakar, son of former military Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, emerged winner of the APC primary for Chanchaga Federal Constituency in Niger State.
Other notable winners include Olumide Osoba, son of former Ogun State governor Olusegun Osoba, who retained the APC ticket for Abeokuta North/Obafemi Owode/Odeda Federal Constituency, and Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Delta State governor James Ibori, who also secured the party’s ticket for another term in the House of Representatives.
Chinedum Orji, son of former Abia State governor Theodore Orji, was also reported to have clinched the APC ticket for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.
In Benue State, Blessing Onuh, daughter of former Senate President David Mark, equally emerged victorious during the APC primaries.
Political analysts say the emergence of these candidates reflects the enduring influence of established political families in Nigeria’s democratic process, as parties continue relying on familiar political structures and legacies ahead of the 2027 elections.
