Anthony Joshua Discharged from Hospital Following Tragic Accident

Lagos, Nigeria – In a somber turn of events, the governments of Lagos and Ogun states have extended their condolences to the families of Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami, who tragically lost their lives in a road accident involving prominent boxer Anthony Joshua on December 29, 2025.

The primary news from this incident is that Anthony Joshua has been discharged from the hospital, where he was receiving treatment. Despite being deemed clinically fit to recuperate at home, Joshua is reportedly heartbroken over the loss of his two close friends. Earlier today, he and his mother paid their final respects at the funeral home in Lagos as preparations were made for the repatriation of Ayodele and Gami, scheduled for later this evening.

In a joint statement released on Twitter by the Ogun State Government, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu offered their condolences: “We pray that the Almighty grants the repose of their souls while granting their families and loved ones the fortitude to bear this very sad and painful loss.”

The governors expressed their gratitude for the public’s concern and support during this difficult time and acknowledged the assistance provided by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating, “We deeply appreciate the fatherly support he gave throughout the process.”

They also commended the team of doctors and medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi for their commendable care and professionalism in attending to Anthony and others who sustained injuries in the accident.

The statement was jointly signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Ogun State Governor, and Gbenga Omotoso, Commissioner for Information and Strategy for Lagos State.
