Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have rescued three kidnapped victims and dismantled a suspected terrorist and kidnapping syndicate’s hideout in Anambra State.
The operation was carried out by troops of 185 Battalion in collaboration with the Anambra Vigilante Group, following the abduction of three people around the Osakwa General Area of Ihiala Local Government Area. The victims were subsequently rescued during the operation.
The Army said a follow-up operation on October 1, 2026, led to the arrest of a suspected kidnapper identified as Sunday Obi.
According to the military, information obtained from the suspect led troops to a suspected syndicate camp at Abator in Ogbaru Local Government Area, across the Isieke waterside.
Troops reportedly used canoes to cross the waterways and access the hideout, where they engaged suspected terrorists. The Army said the suspects fled with gunshot wounds.
Recovered from the camp were two AK-47 rifles with magazines, three pump-action guns and three locally fabricated Dane guns.
The troops also recovered 62 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 149 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and two cartridges, alongside materials suspected to be intended for the fabrication of improvised explosive devices.
Other items recovered included a solar generator, power bank, car battery, two motorcycle batteries, two solar panels and two mobile phones.
The Army said follow-up operations are underway to apprehend fleeing suspects, alleged collaborators, logistics suppliers and other facilitators.
Operation UDO KA, it added, will continue coordinated operations with security agencies and local stakeholders to disrupt criminal networks and protect communities across the South-East.
