An American citizen, Eyal Yakoby, has stirred nationwide controversy after visiting the scene of a deadly attack in Rukuba, Jos, and releasing a video in which he strongly criticised and issued a warning to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The video, said to have been recorded shortly after the incident, captured Yakoby alleging that more than 10 people whom he described as innocent Christians were killed during the overnight assault.
The attack reportedly occurred on Palm Sunday, a key moment in the Christian calendar that marks the beginning of Holy Week.
In his remarks, Yakoby questioned the federal government’s handling of recurring violence, accusing authorities of failing to protect vulnerable communities. He also warned of consequences if decisive action is not taken to address the situation.
The footage has since gone viral, drawing sharp reactions from Nigerians across the country.
Many have condemned the foreign national’s actions as inappropriate and disrespectful, arguing that his comments crossed diplomatic boundaries and raise concerns about external involvement in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
However, some observers view the development as reflective of deepening frustration over persistent insecurity, particularly in Plateau State, where communities have faced repeated attacks in recent times.
As of press time, neither the presidency nor security agencies have issued an official statement regarding the incident or Yakoby’s comments.
