The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ondo State Chapter, has commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for what it described as a major breakthrough in economic diplomacy following the return of the President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, to the Olokola Free Trade Zone with renewed investment commitments.
The commendation on Tuesday was made by the Chairman of Akure South Local Government and ALGON Chairman in Ondo State, Hon. Fasua Gbenga, who described the development as a landmark achievement that will reshape the economic landscape of the state.
According to him, the return of Dangote signals renewed confidence in Ondo State as an investment destination and reflects the governor’s deliberate efforts to create a business-friendly environment capable of attracting large-scale industrial investors.
He noted that the Olokola Free Trade Zone, which had long been seen as a project with unfulfilled potential, is now witnessing a revival under the Aiyedatiwa administration, describing the development as a turning point for the state’s economic future.
“For many years, the Olokola project remained a symbol of unfulfilled expectations. Today, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, that narrative is changing. The return of Alhaji Aliko Dangote signifies renewed hope, renewed confidence, and renewed prospects for the people of Ondo State,” Fasua said.
He added that the planned investments in power generation, cement production, gas infrastructure, industrial manufacturing, and the development of a modern industrial city would position Ondo State as a leading economic hub in Nigeria and across West Africa.
Hon. Fasua further noted that Dangote’s acknowledgment of Governor Aiyedatiwa as a business-friendly leader who understands the role of the private sector in development underscores the governor’s pragmatic and investment-driven approach to governance.
“Capital flows where confidence exists, and confidence thrives where leadership inspires trust. Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated that effective leadership can attract transformative investments capable of changing the economic fortunes of our people,” he said.
On behalf of ALGON and local government administrations across Ondo State, he congratulated the governor on the development and pledged continued support for policies aimed at driving sustainable growth and inclusive economic development.
He expressed optimism that the revival of the Olokola Free Trade Zone would usher in a new era of industrialization, job creation, and long-term prosperity for the people of Ondo State.
