Residents of Akure have expressed their gratitude to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for the near completion of the Onyearugbulem-Irese flyover, a project that promises to significantly enhance traffic flow in the Ondo State capital.
Starnews NG reports that Governor Aiyedatiwa conducted inspections to assess the progress of the flyover’s construction on Saturday. The governor, who visited the construction site with some members of his cabinet and aides, was pleased with the pace of progress recorded.
Although Governor Aiyedatiwa did not address the press, the smile on his face was filled with expressions of joy and satisfaction. The Onyearugbulem-Irese flyover is set to be the first of its kind in Akure, following its flag-off by former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
The initiative is aimed at improving the state’s infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for residents. Locals who spoke to Starnews NG’s correspondent at the scene shared their happiness regarding the development.
“At first, we were led to believe the project had been abandoned by the Aiyedatiwa government, but now, as you can see, the completion rate is 95%. We are pleased that he continues the legacy of his predecessor. He is a good man, and we sincerely appreciate him,” said Adedayo Femi.
Morenikeji Akinrogunde added, “At least the accident rate in this area will be reduced. This is one of the busiest roads in Akure, connecting to other regions. Akeredolu started it, but Aiyedatiwa is finishing it. To God be the glory.”
Olubunmi Oyesanmi expressed her gratitude, stating, “The lucky man is changing the narrative. He has truly won my heart with this project because there were rumours before that he was not interested in this initiative. People said he abandoned all projects started by his predecessor, but he proved them wrong.
“When I was here last week and saw the progress on this bridge, I was so happy. I told my husband that we must be careful with what we read on social media because there is much fake news against the governor. Politics is truly dirty,” she said.
Starnews NG writes that Governor Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to the project is evident, as the flyover will not only facilitate smoother trade flows but also strengthen the region’s economic framework. The planned revamp of the 30 MW tri-fuel independent power plant in Ore, located in the Odigbo Local Government Area, further demonstrates the administration’s focus on sustainable infrastructure development.
As the project progresses, it is anticipated that the new flyover will significantly reduce travel time and enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians alike. The government has assured residents that the project will be completed promptly, providing a much-needed boost to the area’s infrastructure.
