Akinyelure Denies Media Interview, Urges Caution Over Misuse of His Name

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pius Akinyelure, has dismissed reports claiming he granted an interview regarding the party’s internal political arrangements, describing the publication as false and misleading.

Speaking through close associates on Tuesday, Akinyelure clarified that he did not authorise or participate in any such interview and urged party members and the public to disregard the circulating claims.

He reiterated that the party’s established approach remains the adoption of consensus candidates wherever there is mutual agreement among stakeholders. According to him, in situations where consensus cannot be reached, the party will conduct primary elections in line with its constitution and democratic principles.

Akinyelure also cautioned individuals and groups against invoking his name to advance personal or political interests, stressing that he remains a father figure to all and does not take sides in ways that could create division within the party.

He emphasised that this balanced approach is aimed at fostering unity while ensuring fairness and transparency in the candidate selection process, urging party faithful to remain calm and committed to due process as preparations continue for the upcoming electoral activities.
