Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the release of N1.1 billion as a Special Intervention Fund for the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, to offset outstanding salary arrears owed to members of staff.
The approval, announced on Wednesday, is aimed at resolving the lingering industrial dispute at the state-owned institution and restoring academic activities.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the intervention underscores the administration’s commitment to education and the welfare of workers in the state.
The statement said the governor had directed the Ministry of Finance and the university management to ensure the immediate release and disbursement of the funds.
Aiyedatiwa also appealed to the university’s staff unions to suspend the ongoing strike and resume work in the interest of students and the overall development of the institution.
“The intervention is specifically to offset outstanding salary arrears owed to staff of the institution and to bring an end to the ongoing industrial dispute,” the statement read.
It added that the governor believes a motivated workforce remains essential to building a globally competitive 21st-century university.
The intervention comes amid efforts by the state government to improve the education sector and ensure industrial harmony across public institutions.
