Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
The appointment followed the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council after a selection process conducted in line with the institution’s governing laws and regulations.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Professor Obamuyi emerged as the top candidate among 15 applicants interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board.
He will take over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.
Professor Obamuyi is a renowned scholar in Banking and Finance with decades of experience in teaching, research, and university administration. He previously served as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and was the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
His academic achievements include receiving the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa Award in 2015 from the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius. He has also served on National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation teams and chaired review panels for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.
Beyond Nigeria, Professor Obamuyi has presented academic papers at conferences across Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia, reflecting his contributions to global scholarship.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor would build on the achievements of the institution and strengthen its reputation in teaching, research, and community service.
The governor urged Professor Obamuyi to uphold AAUA’s core values while promoting peace, innovation, and collaboration among staff, students, and other stakeholders.
He also reaffirmed the Ondo State Government’s commitment to supporting the university in sustaining its position as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned institutions.
