- Deliver Substandard Inner-Town Job
An investigative field visit conducted on Friday by the Starnews NG team has exposed a massive failure in the execution of the 28-kilometre Ajagba-Akotogbo-Ijuosun road project in Irele Local Government Area. The investigation revealed that contractors have abandoned critical stretches of the vital corridor and delivered a highly compromised, substandard job inside Akotogbo town.

Despite official claims from the Ondo State Government regarding active construction and progress across the 28-kilometre network, the reality on the ground paints a grim picture of neglect. The failure leaves local communities completely cut off, economically stranded, and at the mercy of collapsing infrastructure.
Ajagba to Akotogbo Stretch (Approx. 14.5 km) is Completely Abandoned. The road is entirely unmotorable. There is zero presence of construction workers, machinery, or materials. Heavy rainfall has left the stretch impassable, crippling transport.
Concerning The Akotogbo Inner Town Corridor
The contractor bypassed the main connecting road to lay a cosmetic layer of asphalt from the Akotogbo roundabout into the town. The asphalt thickness is under one inch, lacking durability and highly prone to washing away during the next heavy downpour.
Iju-Osun (Ijosun) Section (Approx. 13.4 km) is a case of Total Neglect. The situation here is even worse. The contractor has not touched the road, save for a few isolated meters of basic drainage construction that offers no relief to the community.
Speaking to a Starnews NG correspondent during Friday’s tour, the Larogbo of Akotogbo Kingdom, Oba (Barrister) Michael Elumaro Akinfolarin, expressed appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for approving the road project, while issuing an urgent plea for its timely completion, saying it had been nearly two years since its approval.
A prominent community leader, Chief Adeyanoba, also voiced his frustration to our correspondent:
The desperation is equally severe in neighbouring Iju-Osun. The Olughogho of Iju-Osun, Oba Samuel Oyegbemi, confirmed the total abandonment of the road, begging the Aiyedatiwa administration to rescue the community from complete isolation before the entire area becomes entirely cut off from the rest of the state.
