The African Group of Negotiators Experts Support has congratulated Senator Jimoh Ibrahim on his appointment as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, describing it as a recognition of his leadership and experience.
In a congratulatory message dated April 9, 2026, the Director of Climate Policy and Technical Services at AGNES, Professor David Awolala, said Ibrahim’s appointment reflects confidence in his capacity to represent Nigeria at the global stage.
“This well-deserved appointment is a recognition of your distinguished leadership and outstanding record within the Nigerian and African landscape,” Awolala said.
He added that Ibrahim’s career demonstrates “strategic thinking, intellectual depth, and a firm commitment to national development,” noting that his emergence comes at a critical time for global governance.
Awolala stressed that Nigeria’s role at the UN remains crucial amid rising global challenges, including climate change, inequality, and development pressures.
“Your appointment comes at a moment that calls for experienced, capable, and forward-looking leadership… We are confident that you will bring distinction to this role and advance Nigeria’s interests with excellence, insight, and diplomatic strength,” he stated.
Highlighting the importance of climate diplomacy, Awolala noted that the UN remains central to shaping global policies on climate governance, finance, and sustainable development.
He also underscored the need for collaboration between diplomatic missions and technical institutions, assuring that AGNES is ready to support Nigeria’s engagement at the multilateral level.
“AGNES stands ready to support your mission and vision at the UN, particularly in the areas of climate governance, climate finance, and capacity strengthening for sustainable development,” he said.
Prof. Awolala expressed optimism that Ibrahim’s tenure would open new opportunities for Nigeria to strengthen partnerships, influence global decisions, and advance development priorities both nationally and across Africa.
He concluded by wishing the envoy success in office and expressed hope for a “robust partnership” between AGNES and Nigeria’s mission to the United Nations.
