Tension has once again gripped Jos, the Plateau State capital, following fresh attacks on residents and motorists across several parts of the city on Wednesday even as the state government recently relaxed the curfew.
Witnesses said a young man was brutally killed along the road leading to the University of Jos permanent site. He was reportedly attacked without provocation by hoodlums, a development that has deepened fear among residents already unsettled by the rising unrest.
In areas such as Terminus, Bauchi Road and Gangare, mobs were said to have targeted passing vehicles and pedestrians, smashing windscreens and causing widespread panic. The violence forced many businesses to shut their doors, as traders chose safety over opening for the day.
Banks in the affected areas also suspended operations temporarily, with both staff and customers unable to move freely amid the tension.
Residents identified the worst-hit areas as the University of Jos corridor, Bauchi Road, Farin Gada, Tina Junction and Chobe. Across these locations, movement has reduced significantly, with many people staying indoors to avoid being caught up in the attacks.
For many in Jos, the renewed violence has only heightened anxiety, as families worry about their safety and hope for a swift return to calm.
