The Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 has set a new scoring record after producing 120 goals before the final and third-place matches, making it the highest-scoring edition in the history of the tournament.
The Confederation of African Football said the record-breaking goal tally surpassed the previous mark of 102 goals set during the 2019 tournament in Egypt, reflecting the attacking strength and improved technical quality of teams across the continent.
Several teams, including Senegal, Nigeria, Morocco and Côte d’Ivoire, played key roles in the scoring surge, with both established stars and emerging players making strong impacts throughout the competition.
Morocco’s Brahim Diaz currently leads the goal chart with five goals, while Egypt’s Mohammed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen have scored four goals each. With the third-place match still to be played, the race for the top scorer award remains open.
CAF noted that the attacking trend was evident from the start of the tournament, with coaches adopting more adventurous tactics and players thriving in open, competitive matches. The football body added that the 24-team format has helped improve depth and balance across African football.
As the tournament approaches its conclusion, CAF said the goal milestone highlights the growing quality, confidence and entertainment value of African football on the continental stage.
