ADC To Tinubu: Nigerians Worse Off, Less Secure After Three Years

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of failing to deliver the dividends of democracy, insisting that Nigerians are worse off economically and less secure than they were in previous years.

In a Democracy Day message issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said the true measure of democracy lies in its impact on the lives of citizens, rather than the number of years spent under civilian rule.

The party challenged Nigerians to assess whether their lives had improved under the current administration, arguing that rising insecurity, economic hardship and declining confidence in government institutions suggest otherwise.

According to the ADC, communities across the country continue to grapple with violent attacks, kidnappings and criminal activities, while many citizens live in fear due to the government’s inability to adequately protect lives and property.

The party further lamented the rising cost of living, noting that soaring food prices, transportation costs, healthcare expenses and school fees have placed unbearable pressure on millions of households.

ADC also expressed concern over the growing unemployment rate among young Nigerians, saying many youths now face an uncertain future, while others are seeking opportunities abroad due to limited prospects at home.

The opposition party blamed the nation’s challenges on what it described as poor leadership and ineffective economic policies, alleging that the government has failed to provide practical solutions to the country’s pressing problems.

“This government has no solution to insecurity and the cost-of-living crisis confronting Nigerians,” the party stated, adding that citizens deserve policies that directly address their daily struggles.

Presenting its alternative vision, ADC said security should be intelligence-driven, technology-based and community-focused, while economic policies must prioritise reducing hardship, supporting small businesses and improving food production.

The party also pledged to strengthen transparency, accountability and public trust in democratic institutions, stressing that governments should be judged by their ability to improve the welfare and security of citizens.

ADC maintained that the sacrifices made during the June 12 democratic struggle would only be truly honoured when democracy delivers security, prosperity and equal opportunities for all Nigerians.
