A man, identified as Andrawus James, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Yola, Adamawa State, over allegations that he attempted to sell his 18-year-old niece for ₦7 million.
James was accused of abducting the teenager, identified as Fatima, after allegedly luring her with the promise of securing employment for her in Abuja.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly took the teenager to Ganye, where he reportedly contacted a prospective buyer in connection with the alleged transaction.
The alleged buyer was said to have alerted security operatives, leading to James’ arrest before the alleged deal could be completed.
James, said to be a resident of Dai Village in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State, was subsequently charged with offences relating to abduction, human trafficking and the alleged buying or selling of persons for immoral purposes.
He reportedly pleaded guilty after the charges were read and interpreted to him in court.
The Chief Magistrate Court ordered his remand in a correctional facility and adjourned the matter pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The case is expected to continue after the legal advice is received, while the allegations against the defendant remain subject to further judicial proceedings.
