Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza of the Kebbi State High Court has regained his freedom after spending one week in the custody of kidnappers.
A family member confirmed the judge’s release on Monday, saying he had returned home safely after his ordeal.
“We are in jubilation and full of gratitude to God for seeing our own return safely from captivity. He was just released and has returned home now after spending one week with the bandits,” the family member said.
The relative expressed appreciation to the Kebbi State Judiciary, security agencies and residents of the state for their support and prayers throughout the period of captivity.
“We sincerely thank and appreciate the Kebbi State Judiciary, the security agencies, and the entire people of Kebbi State who contributed in different ways, offered prayers, and sent messages of sympathy. Your concern and support gave us strength, and we are grateful for your solidarity,” the source added.
The family, however, declined to disclose the circumstances surrounding the judge’s release.
“Other details of how he was released will be made available later,” the source said.
As of Monday morning, the Kebbi State Judiciary and security agencies had yet to issue an official statement confirming the release or providing details of the operation that secured the judge’s freedom.
Justice Bunza was abducted about a week ago, triggering concern within the judiciary and renewed calls for improved security across the state. Authorities are expected to provide further information as investigations continue.
