Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has warmly hailed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) approval of a ₦334 billion redesign and upgrade of the Kano–Kongolom road project, a strategic transport artery in Northern Nigeria. The approval came during a FEC session presided over by President Tinubu in Abuja on March 4, 2026.
Yusuf described the council’s decision as a historic breakthrough that will transform Kano’s road infrastructure, reinforce its role as a commercial and logistics hub, and unlock economic potential across the North‑West region. The 132 km corridor, linking Kano with Jigawa and Katsina states, is set to be reconstructed as a three‑lane concrete carriageway, complete with solar‑powered street lighting and modern CCTV surveillance systems; measures aimed at enhancing safety, security, and travel efficiency on the route.
The governor commended the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for prioritising quality federal infrastructure delivery and ensuring the Kano project received attention at the council level. Yusuf pledged full cooperation from the Kano State Government to create an enabling environment for contractors to deliver the project smoothly and timely.
Beyond reducing travel time and bolstering safety, the road is expected to generate jobs, attract investment and further elevate Kano’s economic standing; outcomes Yusuf says align with his administration’s “Kano First Agenda” and the federal “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
