A Nigerian-born man, Obinwa Obichukwu, has been sentenced to two years in prison in the United Kingdom for sexually assaulting a woman at Euston train station in London.
Obichukwu, 45, was convicted after he targeted a lone woman on the evening of August 20, 2023, repeatedly accosting and assaulting her despite her attempts to avoid him.
The British Transport Police (BTP), which announced the sentencing on Tuesday, said the convict approached the victim as she walked toward the busy transport hub and attempted to strike up a conversation about the music she was listening to.
According to investigators, Obichukwu placed his arm around the woman’s shoulder, invited her to his home, and continued following her along Euston Road before sexually assaulting her at the station entrance and again near the ticket barriers after trailing her down an escalator to the London Underground.
The victim eventually pushed him away and fled the scene before reporting the incident to the authorities.
Following investigations, BTP officers traced Obichukwu to his home, where he was arrested and charged with sexual assault.
Reacting to the judgment, the British Transport Police said the conviction demonstrates its commitment to bringing sexual offenders to justice.
“We’ve put another sexual predator in prison. Obinwa Obichukwu targeted a lone woman and attacked her at Euston station. For doing so, he’ll now spend two years behind bars,” the police said in a statement.
Obichukwu was found guilty in January by the Inner London Crown Court on two counts of sexual assault and was sentenced on July 21, 2026.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) on him and directed that his name be placed on the UK Sex Offenders Register for a decade.
The case adds to a growing list of convictions involving Nigerians found guilty of sexual offences in the UK. Earlier this year, another Nigerian, Daniel Odubanjo, was jailed for six years for sexually assaulting women on a train, including inside a toilet. In November 2025, Chiemka Okoronta, a Nigerian postgraduate student, was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for raping a 17-year-old girl.
