Former Governor of Sokoto State and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has called on Nigerians to democratically vote President Bola Tinubu out of office in the 2027 general election, accusing the current administration of failing to address the country’s growing insecurity and governance challenges.
Tambuwal made the call in Sokoto while formally receiving the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former governor described Kalanjeni’s defection as a courageous move, saying it reflected commitment to national interest rather than personal political gain.
According to him, worsening insecurity in parts of Sokoto and other parts of the country underscores the need for a change in leadership through the ballot box.
“I am calling on the people of Sokoto and Nigerians as a whole to come together and do everything democratically possible to ensure that we change this government that does not mean well for Nigerians,” Tambuwal said.
He also alleged that the growing influence of the ADC had unsettled the ruling party, claiming efforts to weaken the opposition had failed.
Tambuwal, however, urged members of the ADC to avoid personal attacks and abusive rhetoric, insisting that the party must remain focused on issue-based campaigns as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Kalanjeni’s defection adds to the political realignments taking shape in Sokoto State ahead of the next general election.
