Governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Abayomi Hunye, has warned that the political crisis surrounding the party’s 2027 governorship ticket could be worse than the recent crisis witnessed during the Osun State governorship election.
Hunye issued the warning on Tuesday while speaking on Frontline, a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM, Ilese-Ijebu, as he defended his decision to challenge the APC governorship primary in court.
He accused the APC leadership of imposing Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its preferred candidate, insisting that the party should conduct a free and fair primary.
“They saw what happened in Osun. What happened in Osun is going to be a child’s play to what is going to happen in Ogun State in 2027,” Hunye said.
The APC, however, has disowned Hunye, describing him as an impostor and insisting that Adeola is its duly nominated candidate for the election.
But Hunye rejected the claim, saying, “I never said I was. I remain an aspirant.”
He also challenged the party’s claim that he had been suspended, saying he never received any suspension letter.
Hunye said he had purchased the party’s nomination form for N50 million, participated in the screening and was cleared to contest the primary, where he alleged he was later recorded as scoring zero votes.
“So there was no withdrawal in my own name. I participated in the election,” he said.
He maintained that his case remains before the court and vowed not to withdraw it despite what he described as intimidation.
“Whatever the APC likes let them do. They are trying to intimidate me so that I can drop the case and I will not,” Hunye said.
The APC has meanwhile petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and the DSS, accusing Hunye of impersonation and conduct capable of causing a breach of peace.
The unfolding dispute has further heightened uncertainty over the APC’s preparations for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
