A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Kenneth Okonkwo, has declared that the political movement to remove the ruling All Progressives Congress from power in the 2027 general elections has already begun, expressing confidence that opposition forces are gradually building momentum.
On Friday, March 13, 2026, Okonkwo said the ADC and its allies are intensifying efforts to mobilise Nigerians dissatisfied with the current economic and political situation under the APC-led federal government. According to him, the opposition coalition is working toward a united front capable of challenging the ruling party at the polls.
Okonkwo argued that the growing realignments among political actors indicate a broader shift in Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of 2027. He maintained that many citizens are increasingly frustrated by economic hardship, insecurity and governance challenges, factors he believes could shape voter behaviour in the next election cycle.
The actor-turned-politician stressed that the ADC intends to position itself as a credible alternative platform, capable of bringing together different political interests and regional blocs to contest the APC’s dominance. Political observers say such statements reflect early campaign positioning and coalition-building expected in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
While the APC continues to maintain a strong national structure, opposition parties appear to be exploring new alliances and strategies to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape in the coming years.
