Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing the state as belonging to the President despite its longstanding association with former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
Fintiri made the declaration on Monday in Yola at the launch of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement 2027, which marked the commencement of the group’s campaign activities in the state.
“ This is Asiwaju state,” the governor declared, signalling his support for Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election.
Fintiri said the President deserved support for what he described as his sacrifices for the country.
He said Adamawa would back Tinubu “for his sacrifice, for having been taking the bullet for all of us”.
The governor also defended the administration’s economic reforms, arguing that they had empowered state governments to implement development projects.
According to him, improving living conditions and reducing hardship should be a shared responsibility between the Federal Government and the states.
“It is not the responsibility of the Federal Government alone to achieve development and reduce hardship. This is a Federation. We in this state will continue to do our part to improve the lives of the people,” Fintiri said.
The declaration is politically significant because Adamawa has long been associated with Atiku Abubakar, who hails from the state and is seeking political relevance ahead of the 2027 election through the African Democratic Congress (ADC), according to the report.
Earlier, Adamawa APC chairman Hamza Madagali also expressed confidence in Tinubu’s support in the state.
Madagali said the APC was firmly established in Adamawa and claimed that no other presidential candidate would secure up to 25 per cent of the votes in 2027.
