2027 Election: INEC Warns Nigerians Over Fake Registration Portal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fake website claiming that the commission has reopened nationwide voter registration ahead of the 2027 elections.

The fraudulent platform reportedly announced a new online registration exercise scheduled to run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.

INEC, in a statement issued on Saturday, said the website was not affiliated with the electoral commission and urged the public to ignore its claims.

According to the commission, the fake platform came to its attention after it began circulating messages suggesting that nationwide online voter registration had resumed.

The electoral body warned Nigerians not to click on the website or provide personal information through it, saying details submitted on the platform could be collected and potentially misused.

INEC said: “The Commission wishes to categorically inform the general public that the website below is FAKE and has no affiliation whatsoever with INEC.”

The commission further clarified that the voter registration exercise for the current electoral cycle ended on July 26, 2026, contradicting the claim that a new nationwide registration window had opened.

INEC advised eligible voters to disregard election-related information from unofficial websites, social media posts and other unverified sources.

It urged Nigerians to verify information through its authorised communication channels before taking any action concerning voter registration or other electoral services.

“INEC urges the public to remain vigilant and to verify all electoral information through the Commission’s official communication channels,” the commission said.

The warning comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the electoral body continues preparations and provides election-related services through its official platforms.

INEC reiterated that Nigerians should rely on verified information from the commission and avoid submitting personal details to suspicious websites.
