No fewer than 15 persons were reportedly killed in a tragic lone accident on Friday involving a Toyota Hiace bus along the Lokoja–Okene road in the early hours of Friday.
The bus, said to be carrying a Plateau State registration number, was involved in the fatal crash under circumstances that were still unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Emergency responders and sympathisers were said to have rushed to the scene shortly after the incident occurred.
An eyewitness who reportedly stopped to assist victims described the accident scene as devastating, with several passengers feared dead on the spot.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the accident or the identities of the victims.
The Lokoja–Okene highway is regarded as one of the busiest transport corridors linking the northern and southern parts of the country and has witnessed several fatal accidents over the years.
