A total of 1,117 Islamic clerics from the Izala and Tijjaniyya groups in Katsina State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.

The clerics, comprising Islamic scholars, imams, male and female preachers, and teachers, declared their support at a gathering held on Sunday, October 25, organised by Ibrahim Kabir Masari, the President’s Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters. <Cite refs={[“turn952064news4”]} />

Masari conveyed the President’s appreciation to the religious leaders and assured them that Tinubu and his administration would work to sustain the confidence placed in them by residents of Katsina State.

He also urged the clerics to mobilise their followers in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at all levels ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqa Rabe-Darma, appealed to the scholars to use their influence in mosques and communities to explain the administration’s policies and political agenda.

He noted that religious leaders play an influential role in shaping public discussions because of their regular interactions with worshippers and community members.

Similarly, Sheikh Aminu Usman, popularly known as Abu Ammar, urged Islamic scholars to participate responsibly in political discussions and help citizens assess candidates based on their records and performance.

The endorsement adds to growing political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties and political leaders seek support from religious, community and professional groups across the country.

However, the endorsement represents the position of the participating clerics and should not automatically be interpreted as the voting preference of all Muslims or residents of Katsina State.
