The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has resumed its orientation program in Zamfara State following a sixteen-month suspension due to security challenges.
The reopening ceremony, held at a temporary facility in Gusau, included the swearing-in of Batch C Stream 1 corps members.
The original camp in Tsafe town is undergoing extensive renovations funded by the Zamfara State government.
During the closure, corps members were redirected to other states for their orientation activities.
NYSC officials expressed optimism about the improved security situation in Zamfara, which allowed for the camp’s reopening.
Over 400 corps members, comprising 320 males and 80 females, began their orientation, with calls for discipline, unity, and active participation in the camp’s skills acquisition programs.
Zamfara’s Governor, represented by the Ministry of Youth Development, assured the corps members of government support and encouraged them to adapt to their new environment while embracing unity and service.
Security agencies also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the corps members.
The state police, alongside military and intelligence units, declared Zamfara safe and assured strategic deployments to ensure their safety.
Despite past challenges, the corps members voiced excitement about exploring Zamfara’s culture, cuisine, and opportunities for personal growth.
Many described their deployment as a chance to experience a new region and contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.
