The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) has declared its support for Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to contest the Lagos State governorship in 2027, drawing parallels between his potential leadership and succession traditions in religious institutions.
In a statement released on Sunday in Owerri, CONYL President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, defended Seyi Tinubu’s right to seek public office, arguing that family connections should not hinder his aspirations.
“Pastors and General Overseers of churches often pass their ministries to their sons. Why should Seyi Tinubu, a young and capable leader, be denied the chance to serve Lagos State simply because of his father’s legacy?” Ibem questioned.
The group praised Seyi Tinubu’s leadership qualities, describing him as a visionary with the potential to take Lagos State to greater heights. They referred to his possible candidacy as a “divine mandate” and urged him to heed the call to serve.
CONYL further appealed to lovers of democracy to support Seyi Tinubu’s ambition, insisting that his leadership would bring progress to the state. They also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to endorse his son’s candidacy, emphasizing that his blessing would solidify Seyi’s bid to lead Lagos in 2027.
