Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has fired back at Deji Adeyanju, a prominent lawyer and activist, over his criticism of recent demolitions in Abuja.
Adeyanju, along with Vincent Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan), led a protest last week against Wike’s handling of the demolition of Ruga, a settlement along Airport Road.
Adeyanju had said “there is no justification for this demolition”, and asked President Bola Tinubu to urgently address the matter.
The protesters also had placards urging Wike to be sacked by the president.
Reacting, Wike, in an interview with journalists, claimed Adeyanju was merely seeking attention due to being “jobless.”
He revealed that Adeyanju had previously requested to become the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but was rejected.
Wike said, “I saw one young man, they call him Adeyanju. He is from Kogi State. This young boy came to me that he wants to be the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP and I said no.
“I said he won’t be, and he was not. I have no regret about it. He has suddenly become a civil society activist.
“He has no job and that’s why he decided to turn to a civil society activist”.
