The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has appointed Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, the President of the Court of Appeal, as the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.
The announcement came during the inauguration of the new board, which took place at the Minister’s official residence in Life Camp on Friday.
Justice Dongban-Mensem replaces General I.B.M. Haruna, who has now been honored with the role of Patron alongside King Alfred Diete-Spiff, Dr. Tim Menakaya, and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe.
The new members of the Board of Trustees include Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, Mrs. Grace Ihonvbere, S.l. Ameh (SAN), Hamid Abbo, Admiral Victor Adedipe (rtd), Chief Patrick Chidolue, and Mr. Ikokwu.
During the event, Wike addressed the club’s recent internal challenges and stressed the need for the new board to conduct a fair and transparent election for the Executive Committee, amend the club’s constitution, and ensure proper registration.
He reaffirmed that the golf course still belongs to the FCT Administration and that the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) does not imply privatization of the property.
The Minister praised the outgoing board, particularly General Haruna, for their efforts in leading the club before the recent crisis.
He expressed confidence in the new leadership under Justice Dongban-Mensem and assured full support from the FCT Administration to restore the club to its former glory.
Justice Dongban-Mensem expressed gratitude to the FCT Minister for resolving the crisis swiftly and emphasized the board’s commitment to restoring the club’s reputation.
She acknowledged the club’s international importance and pledged to work towards maintaining its high standards.
She also called for cooperation from the outgoing board members to help guide the new leadership and ensure the club’s success moving forward.
