Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed appreciation for former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, following his public endorsement of President Bola Tinubu.
The acknowledgment came through a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media.
Okowa, who was the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was accompanied by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and other key figures from the PDP, effectively merging the party’s structure in the state with the APC.
Wike described the defection as a positive signal of growing acceptance of President Tinubu’s leadership and governance style. He urged Nigerians who have yet to declare their political stance to consider supporting the current administration.
He also noted that the recent move by both Okowa and Oborevwori reinforces the decision he made ahead of the last presidential election, which he said was based on national unity and progress.
“I applaud the courageous decision made by Okowa and Governor Oborevwori. Their support clearly reflects the visible achievements and dedication of President Tinubu to a united and developed Nigeria,” Wike said.
He further noted that their open support comes at a crucial time, adding that the Niger Delta region stands to benefit significantly through alignment with the president’s agenda. He concluded by saying he is pleased to see others now recognizing what he had foreseen before the 2023 polls and joining what he described as the ‘Renewed Hope’ movement.
