Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has criticized former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili, claiming he encouraged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to go against President Bola Tinubu’s instructions.
Wike alleged that Odili was responsible for the collapse of a peace agreement brokered between his camp and Fubara in 2023, aimed at resolving tensions within the state.
The political conflict between Wike and Fubara intensified after they had once been allies.
The peace deal, agreed upon by both sides in the presence of Tinubu and other figures, quickly unraveled, with Fubara accusing Wike’s camp of ambushing him into the agreement.
Odili, defending Fubara, praised the governor for resisting Wike’s alleged attempts to turn the state into his personal domain, calling it an act of liberation for Rivers people.
In a rebuttal, Wike defended his record as the best governor the state has ever had and rejected accusations of mismanaging Rivers for personal gain.
He further criticized Odili, asserting that the former governor should have sought further reconciliation instead of encouraging Fubara to disregard the peace deal entirely.
The exchange continued as Wike reflected on his decision to back President Tinubu’s candidacy, contrasting it with his opposition to former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.
Wike reiterated his long-standing electoral successes and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Tinubu, calling for unity in the country’s interest.
